Favorite Drinks To Complement Cigars
Trying to figure out what drinks go best with your favorite cigar? Looking for alternatives to the usual?
Whatever the case, the right drink can really complement a cigar; it's the pairing that can be a little difficult, no matter how long you've been enjoying cigars.
At the end of the day, it really comes down to taste. If you enjoy hotdogs, you probably have a pretty good idea of what condiments you like to put on it. Similarly, choosing a drink that matches a cigar is often a matter of testing it out with your palate.
Moreover, you can actually improve your sense of taste over time. Here are a few suggested drinks to try with your next cigar.
Scotch
Some say that scotch is the best drink to go along with a cigar, in particular single malt scotch. But like cigars, scotch can be an acquired taste. Experiment for yourself and see if it enhances your smoking experience.
Beer
Sometimes pairing a cigar with a drink is as easy as finding a good beer. This is especially true if you are going to be puffing a milder cigar.
It's important to note that cigars can overpower the flavor of beers. However, an India Pale Ale (IPA) can stand up to some of the strongest of cigars.
Rum
Both rum and cigars share roots in the Caribbean, and as such, can be a strong match. Rum mixed with coke or root beer can also make for a smooth drink.
In general, matching the color to the body of the cigar to the liquor is good practice; this doesn't just go for rum but for all cigars and drinks!
Final Thoughts
When it comes right down to it, there are so many drinks that can pair well with cigars. Whiskey, red wine, gin, vodka, tequila, champagne, brandy, cognac, and others can all be delightful counterparts to your favorite cigar.
